Love it.

Review:

Don’t be fooled by this jacket’s thin material. It is super-warm. I pretty much live in this jacket for winter cycling. It’s form-fitting but stretchy, so you can add layers over and/or under the jacket with no problem. The sleeves are a bit too long for me–why don’t sports gear manufacturers offer more petite sizes? Also, the jacket only has one pocket, in the back (no side hand-warmer pockets). All in all, a solid jacket.

Yesterday’s weather (link) was not bike-commute friendly at all, and the forecast for tomorrow scary too (Weather Channel is calling it a “Winter Bonanza”, whatever that means). But today! It was just brisk enough to put some color in my cheeks, but not enough wind to make me contemplate my balaclava.

The weather & what I looked like (feel free to point and laugh):

What I was wearing:

helmet

Sugoi hoodie

Sugoi jacket

Sugoi gloves

Canari tights

Smart wool socks

Lake cycling shoes

Louis Garneau shoe covers

This was the perfect combination of gear. The booties kept my feet toasty and my legs were warm the whole way. My torso was a little chilly during the first ten minutes or so, but I warmed up quickly and didn’t overheat. Overheating is a problem for me because I hate to be cold and often put on too many layers. Not this morning!

I left Brighton about 7:10 this morning. The temperature was almost 40 but with windchill it felt more like 35. When I left it was barely drizzling, but about five miles in the drizzle turned to a light rain. Then with two miles to go, the rain turned into hail. According to the weather channel it was a “light snow”, but the ice chips hitting my face certainly hurt more than snow would! The little buggers really stung. I was going down this huge hill (West Street in Needham) and I could barely keep my eyes open. Perhaps it’s time to invest in goggles? What kind do I get?
